Why Edinburgh
Old Town closes are made for a group that wants a big night and a bigger walk the next morning.
The short version of what it is good for: charm & culture, nightlife, food & wine. If none of those is what the group wants, the honest answer is to pick somewhere else — a city cannot be talked into a vibe it does not have.
Things to do
Whisky flight and blending session on the Royal Mile.
Climb Arthur’s Seat before breakfast.
Ghost tour through the underground vaults.
Afternoon tea at the Dome.
Cocktail crawl round Bramble and the New Town basements.
Portobello beach sauna and a cold dip.
Where to eat
A long Sunday lunch in Stockbridge
Seafood at the Shore in Leith
Afternoon tea, booked weeks ahead
Where to stay
Old Town to fall out of the pubs into bed
Leith for space and lower rates
One flat for the group — Edinburgh does this well
One good Saturday
Arthur’s Seat before breakfast, whisky blending at noon, vaults tour at dusk, New Town basements after.
That is one anchored plan, not a schedule. Everything either side of it should be left open.
What it costs
$320–$520 per person for three nights, before travel.
That covers accommodation, food, drink and one or two paid activities. It does not cover getting there, which is the number that varies most and the one people forget to say out loud.
Split the fixed costs — the house, the one big booking — before anyone arrives. Splitting on the last morning is how group trips end badly.
When to go
Best months: May–Sep.
Outside those, expect either weather that changes the plan or prices that change the guest list. Neither is fatal, but both are worth knowing before you commit a date.
Before you book anything
We list these as suggestions, not as bookings, and we do not vet operators. Look up whoever actually runs an activity, read their own reviews rather than an aggregator's, and treat any booking that changes its location by text message as a reason to walk away.
